Closure vs Frontal

What each one covers, what the sizes mean, and how to choose.

Updated October 15, 2026
The short answer

A closure is a square or rectangle of lace that sits where you part your hair. A frontal runs along your whole hairline from ear to ear. Pick a closure for easier upkeep; pick a frontal if you want to part anywhere or wear your hair pulled back.

What the numbers mean

The size is the lace area in inches: width × depth. A 4x4 closure is 4 inches across and 4 inches back from the hairline. A 13x4 frontal is 13 inches across, which spans ear to ear, and 4 inches deep. More lace means more places you can part and style.
